This training aims to increase your level of understanding, boost your confidence in interacting effectively with people on the autism spectrum, and equip you with ways to apply evidence based strategies within your current job roles and organisations.
Understanding autism: This session explores the characteristics of autism with an emphasis on how information processing and sensory perception differences influence the observable characteristics of autism.
Best practice support strategies: This session begins with a facilitated discussion with a panel of Tasmanian adults on the spectrum. We then examine the evidence-based guiding principles that underpin best practice support for people on the spectrum of all ages. This will include discussion and examples of specific practical strategies which participants can adapt to suit their own workplaces.
Who should attend?
This training is suitable for any person who currently works to support people of any age on the autism spectrum. This may include allied health professionals, educators, disability support staff, disability advocates, health professionals or people in similar roles.
This workshop includes a facilitated discussion with a panel of Autistic Consultants who are passionate and experienced at sharing their personal knowledge of autism with training participants.
